Antares • Cygnus OA-5

Orbital ATK will launch in maiden flight upgraded Antares rocket with robotic resupply Cygnus spaceship on atop. It is sixth mission of Cygnus under CRS program covering resupply missions to International Space Station. Antares rocket will be launched in 230 configuration. It will be equipped in second version of the first stage, third version of second stage (with Castor-30XL solid fueled with HTPB). Main upgrade is first stage equipped with two Russian RD-181 engines manufactured by Energomash (fueled with RP-1/LOX) generating thrust at 3700 kN. Castor-30XL is extended version of Castor-30A providing greater thrust - 300 kN instead 259 kN in case of Castor-30A. Orbital ATK claims that due the upgrades in propulsion and extended boosters rocket will manage to lift 25% more payload in LEO missions.
