Mission covers delivering to orbit ten satellites operated by Iridium on atop of Falcon-9 rocket and was originally scheduled for October 2016.
Iridium Next satellites are next generation of iridium satellites created to replace previous satellites and enhance Iridium satellite phone network. They were designed by Thales Alenia Space in the cooperation with Orbital Sciences Corporation as payload and bus integrator. Their payload is transponders operating in L band and Ka band (crosslink and downlink). Each satellite weighs 800 kg and is powered with two solar arrays. Iridium NEXT has at least ten years of operational life and will be placed on LEO with 780 km × 780 km with inclination at 86.4°.
